Timing being 'off' is blamed for a multitude of other issues that are the actual problem........
Carb dirty/partially plugged, or out of adjustment.
Valves out of adjustment.
Weak coil.
Bad/incorrect type spark plug wire.
Loose/dirty electrical connections at condenser, coil, etc.
'Other'.
A combination of these........
These issues will cause an engine to not run smoothly, not gain RPMs, not idle properly, skip/miss/hiccup, etc
