major oil leaks from rear seal on a 17hp series II Kohler
Hello out there and thanks for letting me join this site. My son and I are just getting into the older IH/cub cadets. We just purchased from an elderly couple a nice looking 782 IH/cub, and a fixer 1650 cub. The question I have is for the 782 with what looks to be a series II 17hp opposing twin, it starts and runs great, no noise or smoke, no problems under a load either, just like it should. But, it leaks oil like crazy from I belive, the rear crank seal behind the flywheel and alternator. Compression is around 85 psi in each cyl. I put compressed air to the motor and oil leaked from rear seal, I can't believe it would need rings cause everything seems to to rule that out exept for the pressure inside forcing oil out. There is positive and negative pressure felt from the dipstick tub when it's running though. Maybe an oil pressure regulator malfunction? If any one can give me some thoughts it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
