There may not be a true difference. Back then, there weren't always true standards for every production model. For example, some 12 hp kohlers had the dipstick mounted on top and some were on the LHS for the same model. mrcubcadet and I were looking at two originals from the same year with two different slightly different frames. Some 82 series had red rearends, while others had black ones and some were out of different materials (steel or aluminum). There are many other differences that can also be listed between the same models that others are aware of beyond what I have listed.
