Matt's right, the VR has nothing to do with the problem (certainly not #2)
If it was running before and you changed the points and it's not running, that's where I'd look first...

Now that i couldnt figure out with not having direct power to the coil. However, it was not running when i got it and i first inspected the points as they normally wear out. Mine were burn marked on the contacts with build up on both contact points. Ill keep checking things as i go but for right now im just happy to have it running!
