To fill you in, they never built a 982D. The 982D that is posted on this website is actually a 1572 painted red with custom decals.

As far as the rear ends, they only used aluminum rear ends in the diesel supers. The only super with a cast rear end is the early 982's. As to what's better, they each have their strengths and weakness. The fine spline axles in the aluminum rears ends are stronger than the course splined in the cast ones, but the cast weighs substantially more. It's a lot of work to put the fine spline axles in a cast rear end for a super.

The engine mounting plate is completely different for the Kubota.
