Chris I did my first trunnion repair on my 147 then the 123 and I found out that I needed to add a washer inside of the snap ring that holds everything together, to make it nice and tight.
I read it on here someplace, earlier. But I couldn't get the right thickness washer so I had to file it down to make it work, I think Dave had something on his post, not sure though.
As for your wiring, could you have possibly turned the wires around on the gauge? Does it slightly show charge when you're trying to start it? Because if their backwards it will show discharge when it actually is charging while it's running.
