I have never done it but just looked and from what I can see there is a mount on the bottom of the shifter shaft. It is split where it goes around the shaft. I believe if you tighten the bolt and squeeze it to the shaft some more you will have a firmer shifter. Maybe someone will chime in and confirm it. Hope it helps you.
