What's The Secret?
How do you separate the gear reduction housing from the body of the differential? Aluminum rear. I want to get the reduction and pinion gear out.

Did you remove all 6 bolts holding it on? There's also 2 dowel pins that might be binding.

Yes I got the bolts. There is what looks like a freeze plug facing forward and behind the pump, I wonder if it's a bearing support/retainer? I'm trashing the housing, well it's trashed now, and the plug is actually deforming as I try to pry apart. My intent was to see if the Super reduction gear could be used in a iron rear.

I'm pretty sure you can put that gear in an iron rear. At any rate, the freeze plug should come out. Dumb question, do you have a service manual?

Aha! Get the freeze plug out first...then remove the snap ring on the end of the shaft. There is a bearing in there after all. It's on page 3-30 of the 1204-1872 service manual...
