crankshaft differences
Will the engine out of a john deere K341AQS ( 16 hp ) work in a cub cadet 1450 with a K321 AQS ( 14 hp )? Im not sure what model of john deere it came out of, Ive heard the pto ends of the crankshafts are different sizes. Is this true? Thanks for any help! Wally

Each Kohler motor has a Specification Number (or Spec). This is basically the engineering changes to the basic model to meet various manufacturer's needs.
YES, it is true that the JD crankshaft is different from the Cub Cadet version of the K-321AQS. It is always prudent, when replacing motors on a Cub Cadet, to get a motor that was "spec'd" for a Cub. This way you will have less hassles trying to make something work or fit. |
JD 341 engine
If that engine came out of a 216 or a 316, it will have the extra mounting bosses on the block (my brother has his 216 torn down for refresh). These bosses are cast on the block and because the JD mounts the engine side-ways, the block won't fit in a Cub's chassis without modifying it. So even if you change cranks, there's that to deal with. My thoughts are to trade for the proper engine and save yourself a lot of frustration. Just my :TwoCents:

Thanks guys, Ive had this thing laying around for about a year and thought it might save me some down time to rebuild this one and swap it out when I get it done, but if it wont fit I dont think I will mess with it. whats this thing worth? I only have $20.00 in it and it is complete every thing is on it pto clutch, carb, all the shrouding, flywheel etc. etc.
