SGT suggestions

I can't figure out which model has what I want. I'd like to have a Super Garden Tractor with.........
1. Gear Drive
2. Steering brakes
3. Gasoline Engine (16 HP minimum)
4. NOT a cyclops
5. 60" mower
6. Rear hitch / lift capability

Tall order.

You won't find a gear drive.

All are at least 18hp and you'll want at least 20.

There's a 1572 in OK with diesel with cat0 and rear pto for $1500, you'll find it if you look.

Prepare to travel, won't be in your backyard, never is.

How good are the Kubota diesels ? Anyone had any experience with them? I started out wanting one but have been having second thoughts. I know enough about gas to get by but have never worked on a diesel. The positive side would be, my friend makes the real bio diesel at a cost of $1.00 per gallon and I can have all I need for this price.

The Kubotas are great. Very reliable and cheap on fuel. Parts, filters, etc are expensive. I love my 782D and miss the 1512 I had....nothing worked better with my snowthrower. They are also considerably smoother running than the opposed twins.

I know nothing about diesels. That's why I wanted a gas motor. I really like the looks of the 1872, but I can't find any info on it. As a matter of fact. I can't find much info on any SGT!!

You can buy my 1872 with 60" deck for $1400.

Had an 1872. Sold it a few months ago. Very nice. Hydro drive drive though.

Cub cadet has never made a gear drive super. The biggest tractor that was a gear drive would probably be a 1806. That would be a CCC built 18hp gear drive with a aluminum rear end. The biggest IH built gear drive would be the 582. But none of these are "Supers", just nomal gt's.

AJG: But IH did ! Cub LowBoys 154, 185 or 184 all have 15 - 18 hp, gasoline engine, steering brakes, hydraulic lift (optional), is a gear drive and will handle a 60 inch deck!! And is either Yellow/White or Red just like the Cub Cadets!!

I think that fit his descripton exactly....

Amongst lots of other Cub Cadets & IH equipment, I have a 782D and a Lowboy 154 and love 'em both...!!

Here is a 782 on CL:

My suggestion is to buy Scott's 1872! The 60" deck is a commercial option. They take some doing to find used. Most come with a 50c deck. I've got more in my 1872 than Scott is asking and haven't even mowed with it yet.
