A few 127 questions...

1) Can anyone tell me what part number is for Chevy points for a K-301, or at least what year and engine these points would be from?
2) Is a new points cover definitely needed when using Chevy points?
3) Has anyone ever fabricated a mechanism to change the angle of the front plow blade from the front seat of a 127?

Thanks very much.

What's wrong with the Kohler points?

Yeah, the OEM parts wont require any mods at all,and they work fine.I dont see any advantage in using Chevy points:bigthink:other than maybe not pitting as fast.

I'm starting a rebuild of my engine, and I'm collecting the parts I'd like to upgrade. The 1960s 8-cyl GM points could be adjusted with a spring-loaded hex key, almost totally eliminating the "creep" you get when tightening the points. I'd imagine the GM points might last a little longer; no way to prove that, though. I'm sure the Kohler points are of very good quality; just thought the GM's would be a good upgrade.

Kohler

I would stick with the Kohler ones. There are 2 local stores that have them in stock by you. Bargs in Freehold and Becker Hardware in colts neck. Becker has a ton of old cub parts there and I visit quite often !!!

Although I don't know that the GM points would fit or mount, I have often thought of that design and wondered why it couldn't be implemented onto Kohler Points. It was REAL EASY to adjust or dial in points.

:HeadScratch:

Update...

Accel 8104

Thanks, Jay and Roland. I'm a regular at Becker's also, Jay; good people there. I've never been to Barg's, though. I'm in total agreement with you, Roland; that's why I'd like to install them during my rebuild. I see some vendors selling brackets to mount the GM points on a Kohler, but it wasn't clear if the stock points cover would fit, and none of the vendors with the brackets sold the GM points. Are you familiar with these brackets, Roland? Will the Accel 8104 points fit?

Thank you.

Let me just say, there is NOTHING wrong with the Kohler points, it is just that these other points are easier to adjust.

No....I am not familiar with the Modified Bracket nor know if the combination would clear the Kohler Points Cover.

BUT....I would be interested in knowing if you find any information on this.

Hey OVerKnight. Let me know if your around this weekend. We live like a mile away from eachother. Heck we could drive our cubs to each others house! Haha

OverKnight 03-22-2011 02:07 PM

Hi, Jay. I'm booked this weekend, but yes, let's definitely get together soon. :beerchug: We'll race after my rebuild....
