I found a part number for the K161. KH-231276

part number for K181. KH-234877

I don't see if one is a magneto type or not. That's all I got.

Matt,

I came up with several differen't part numbers also. The 8 hp engines apparently had two different numbered flywheels, one of which is listed as NLA and doesn't show a part number at all. I don't have a parts manual that is new enough to have the 7 AND 8 horse motors in them, yet old enough to show the part number for the 8 hp NLA flywheel (I was hoping that the 8 hp NLA flywheel would be the same number as the 7 hp engine flywheel, but I don't have that information).

After re-reading the above paragraph, it sounds kinda confusing... I guess the short answer is, I DON'T KNOW, and apparently I can't find out!

Paul B. from Louisville, KY will know for sure.

Thank you very much for your help guys!!! I really do appreciate it. The reason I'm asking is that I'm trying to get this new overhauled engine going. And I'm trying to install the 7hp engine Flywheel onto the Crankshaft of the 8hp engine. But the Flywheel is acting like it doesn't fit correctly. Like it's going onto the Crankshaft too tight. I can't remember who told me this, but I was told that the Crankshaft on a 7hp engine was the same Crankshaft used onto the 8hp engine. What do you guys think??? True or False??? Thanks for your help guys!!!

Maybe you can save this and view it larger than 100%. I don't know if this will help you. They look the same.

Different part numbers on the cranks too.

Matt:

:bigthink:

I am sure Kohler had different flywheels for their K161s as well as for the K181s.

Without knowing the complete Model and Spec Number for each, that would be a difficult question to answer.

:HeadScratch:

Hey Roland!!! How's it going good buddy!!!

I'm with you on that one Roland. I have the Spec and Model number to my 7hp Kohler engine, but I have nothing for the 8hp engine. But what I'm planning to do is take a couple of pics of the 8hp Flywheel that's headed this way, and I'll also take pics of the 7hp Flywheel. And post both Flywheels here on the forum, for anyone who is interested on seeing what the differences are. And may also help someone who might be doing an engine swap on a Original. So be looking out for the pics. Take care good buddy!!!!
