taking apart a spindle
I have a 68-71, 42 inch deck - square ends. Can anyone tell me how to get the spindle apart the right way? First, I took the screw in zerk fitting off and then took the pulley off and tried to slide the spindle out the bottom. Well, I ran into a tight fit as it was going through the bearing. Should I use a little force, or do something different? The spindle # is: 489391-R1. I think these have a tapered roller bearing inside. They are a little loose and I would like to rebuild them.
Thanks for your input, Mark :bigthink: |

I just rebuilt mine, I took a couple of exploded view pics in that thread Had to use a little heat to get them apart Then froze the races and heated the spindle to get the bearings back in |
Thank you for the diagrams. This will be a big help to me since I am a novice to these tractors. I guess it needs a little force or help to get it apart!!
Thanks, Mark |
