Carb Bushing #?
 

Anyone know what the bushing size is at ace hardware for the throttle shafts? Got a kit at local dealer but they didn't have the bushings and I saw somewhere that ace had the right size for this. Am going to try to get them in a few minutes so----- any takers?

I think this is what you need:

7/16" o.d. x 1/4" i.d. x 1/8" thick

Thanks, I will check and see what I can find. I know someone had found them at a hardware store, just can't remember where I read it.

I just got back from Ace and the bushing that fits the shaft is too large for the carb bore. I can drill it out to fit, but really don't want to drill it if I don't have too. I would have to remeasure but the difference from shaft to bore is only something like .030. Not much more than a shim bushing. Drilling out the shaft bore would make room for a good size bushing. I read where there is a kit from Kohler that has a new shaft, bushing and screws, but the IH dealer here had a regular kit and didn't have any bushings, didn't act like he had heard of it. Had tune up stuff and a head gskt, walked right to them so I would think He would have at least known.

I recall having to drill my carb back when I did that upgrade. It isn't too bad, just go slow and steady. Use some Red Loctite when you put the bushing in. The drill was just small enough I had to use a light wooden hammer to seat the bushing.

Thanks, just wanted to be sure that is what you do. The hole will guide the bit, just hated to drill it and find out I have the wrong bushings. Did the carbs have bushings from the factory or just like they are and that is the problem. Guess 40 years is not too bad for a carb shaft.

Has anybody mic'd a Kohler bushing and then tried to find a match at McMaster-Carr?
