1450/782 merger

I used my 1450 this weekend to spread gravel around the yard. It's a great tractor, but I like the layout of my 782 better.

The 782 is a CCC model with an aluminum rear. So, to run my tiller (which is a 782 setup, but I use it on my 1450), I need to swap the rear from the 1450 to the 782 and vice versa.

There is no deck on my 1450, so it would become a snowthrower only tractor (funny thing is, the pully on the snow thrower is for the 1450).

Am I off my rocker here, or does this sound like a doable swap? The brake on the 782 is internal, and the 1450 is external. Would that be difficult to swap out?

Thanks!

To my knowlege, changing the rears should be very straightforward. I've never owned an aluminum rear so you should get conformation before you go ahead. I'm quite sure the internal and external breaks both have the same general linkages, and SHOULD hook right up. But I think someone else will be able to let you know for sure if it will work...

I had a similar question and Matt G. advised me that the rear ends are a different length and that a new driveshaft will be needed.

The aluminum gear drive rears are a different length. I don't think the hydro ones are different lengths. The brake linkage for the aluminum rear will not bolt to the 1450, and there will be linkage issues on the 782 as well. If I were doing it, I'd look for another CI rear for the 782. That would be the simplest route. When a tractor gets parted, most of the time the hydro rear is pretty hard to sell. I bet you can find one cheap.
