782 Value
Guys, what would a 782 be worth roughly? It has the Kohler, front outputs, 3 pt, deck.. The guy is looking to basically dump it, because it's too big for his yard. He had it listed for trade but now relisted for cash offer. I talked to him tonight, and said he had a "too good to be true" offer on a trade, but would rather have cash. I am going to look at it tomorrow morning (fingers crossed). He said it's in great shape, but needs valve guides because it smokes a bit at start up, but runs solid.. Right now 800 seems to be what he would take..
As much as I would like to really get my hopes up, I don't have warm fuzzies about scoring it.. |
The front outlets are slightly rare, and the 3-point adds value, but not to $800 if it needs engine work. If it's a Series I KT-17, you might as well plan on a different motor eventually. I'd probably give $500 at the most if it were me. $800 is ridiculous for something that needs engine work. I paid $150 for my 782 with a bad motor but no goodies.

I bought my 782 this winter not hearing it run for $400. Came with front outlets, series II motor, rear lift, mower deck, snow blower, rear blade, rear box blade and landscape rake.. All IH attacments. Also IH plastic wheel weights. Made some money back by selling weights for $50, blower and box blade for $100 for pair (way to cheap) and rake for $75. Motor needed new head from ebay (good pair for $15) head gaskets , fuel pump, muffler, rebuilt starter ,replaced drive shaft fan, set points and cleaned carb. Replaced seat and starts right up ever time. Could not be happier!!

Guys who get deals like that should be :banned: !!!
Yeah, I did not go look at it today just because it really stinks finding one and already have 200 deals going. I'm going to let him stew on it and see what happens.. I really would like to add in a high hp to the collection.. Thanks for the replies.. |
Like matt said the engine will have alot of say in the value. If its a series I i'd bring that up to him that it's a waste of an engine to rebuild. if you can get him low enough it would be worth getting the front ports and 3pt

I bought my 782 for $700.00 and it has an 18hp Kohler Magnum replacement and a 44 inch deck 3 years ago, had no major issues, only the deck needs welding but fortunately I have spare mower decks so I swapped it out, other than that just an occasional minor issue.

Also depends on your location and how far you are willing to travel.

I am glad I saved the gas and did not go look at it
Said it was in "great shape" over the phone, nothing about seat or grill missing.. I don't think I would even pay 250 for it.. But, this is a majority of what it is like around here with cub stuff.. |

Getting a Cub Cadet (782,982) requires more search area. I drove 5 hours to a neighboring state for my 782, and 7 hours and 3 other states for my 982 and that was with gas being near 4 bucks a gallon. I'm glad I did it I've only come across 1 ad for a 682 that was way over priced in a neighboring county but I never see 782s or 982s for sale in Georgia. |
Supers and 782 style tractors are hard to find here too. Luckily they're easy to find in the ohio and indiana areas. I got my 782 from wv.
