Newbie paint help

Hey guys, how long and at what temps should I cure the Valspar spray paint on my tractor. I'm a total newbie at painting so I'm trying to learn as much as possible without doing it the hard way. Also, if you have any advice for first time painters, please post it here and help us newbies out. I know where only a few pages short of an encyclopedia, so please post :)

Spray can or with a gun, and if with a gun, did you use hardener? Temp needs to be at least 65F or so. That stuff takes about 6 months to cure if you didn't use hardener, and about a month if you did.

Always

Hey Young
Always at the minimum use a respiratory rated for painting, especially when using hardener (catalyst). I also suggest safety glasses. I had a very small drop of thinner splash in my eye once and was fortunate that the doctor gave me some drops to heal it. He said it could have cost me my sight. I always prep surfaces with soap and water and Klean Strip Prep All wax and grease remover. I mentioned that product by name because some of the other citrus smelling stuff is not good to use before painting. I find it leaves some kind of a film that repels paint. I etch prime bare metal and use a seal primer on old paint surfaces.. A tack cloth is a must before you apply the paint and never try to hurry the job. TAKE YOUR TIME. It is personally rewarding to see the results of a job well done. And always, always, always have fun.

Click "new thread" at the top of a page inside the forum you want to post in. Button is in same place as the "post reply button" here.

Guys, I used spray bombs, and I currently have the tractor under a tarp with a heater in it. It's about 35 celcius (85f) under there. How long should I leave it?

Good information so far, keep it coming! :)

I used a spray can on my 128:Shhhh: What i did was is to prime wet sand that with 400 grit. Then put on the main color of paint. Then let it sit over night then wet sand that then put on the final coat. On my cub it turned out as smooth as glass.I used Valspar from TSC. If you don't wet sand the color will be a shade lighter then stock color.

I used a valspar rattle can from TSC also. I glass beaded what i could fit in the cabinet and used a good grey primer sanded and put two coats of paint following the directions on the can it says to recoat within 4 hours i let it sit about an hour then put the second coat on. My shop is about 60F all day
