Engine paint in Federal Yellow?
I have a CC 149 with a Kohler K321A. I plan to paint the frame, sheet metal, and engine this spring. I will use a compressed-air paint gun setup.
Question: Can I paint the engine block with the "regular" Cub Cadet Yellow or will the heat of the engine block burn the paint off? Is there a 483 (federal yellow) high heat paint for engines? |
It will eventually burn/discolor the paint. That's the way it was from the factory. I don't believe that high-temp paint comes in anything other than shades of black. One thing you could do is paint the cooling fins with the high-temp black and the rest of the engine with the CC yellow. That won't be correct, but the paint in that area won't deteriorate as quickly.

tcpglobal.com has a bunch of different hi heat colors available.

It has been my "expert" experience when it comes to using Cub Cadet factory Federal Yellow paint to paint a motor, that it does not burn off or even remotely come to question of doing so. :ROTF2:
:Kohler1: {see picts. in my albums}:Slap: :Cub3: It cures very nicely, and should a little due to the heat. NO WAY does a k161 run so hot as to burn 35.99 a qt. paint off the block. I wound not recomend painting and of the cooling fins as well. |

Just to clarify, when I was talking about the cooling fins, I meant the ones on the block. If they aren't painted, they'll rust. The aluminum head should not be painted, though. |
