Model 149 w/K321A Muffler Question
I recently replaced the muffler on my K321A. I re-used the original clamp, but now I have a small exhaust leak where the muffler attaches to the exhaust tube. I have taken the muffler off three times attempting to stop the leak, but have not been able to completely seal it.
Is it because I have an after market muffler? Or is it normal for the K321A to have some exhuast escape before entering the muffler? it is not a "major" leak, but I can feel it when i place my hand near the clamp connection. It is also leaving some streaks of black carbon on the exhaust tube. |
Exhaust leak
I just took a K321 apart for overhaul, and my muffler had been welded on at that clamp you mentioned.
I wrecked it trying to get it off, this must be a common problem. Dave |
You can always try putting some wood stove roping in there. It comes in all different diameters.A 1 Foot piece will go a long way.

I took mine off and cleaned the inside of the muffle and outside of pipe with emery cloth, tapped the muffler up with a rubber hammer and it sealed it tight, no leaks. It seamed like it wasn't going up far enough till I got it all clean, worth a shot.
