removing shifter from 100

I hope this question really is a dumb one, that way it will be an easy fix. How do you get the shifter removed from a 100? Looking at it, it seems there is no way to get it out, let alone back in with a gasket.
Don't tell me I have to split the tractor for this!!!!!!!!!

Splitting the tractor will give you the most clearance, but I have replaced a few without splitting. I usually remove the seat spring, and the bolts holding the rear-end to the frame, and jack the frame up slightly untill I can get my hand in from the back side. Its tight, but can be done. Just dont go jacking too much as the driveshaft will still be attached and you dont want to bend/break it.
