What are the advantages/disadvantages of the external vs internal brakes?
Which is preferred and why?
What is the advantage of a duel pedal brake system, used on the external brake setup?

As far as advantages/disadvantages or preferred set-up, that is a matter of opinion. The external brake is easier to change out brake pads vs. the internal due to the fact the internal pads are inside the reduction housing on the transmission which must be disassembled to remove. The advantage of a dual pedal brake is a better turning radius. You can lock the rear wheel to the inside of your turn and use it as a pivot point.

Internal
 

I have at times had problems with the internal brake system piston leaking around the o-ring. Also the piston can be frozen from rust. I know the internal system is used by the pullers with their custom rims.

I would take external over internal as with external you have two big disks wich gives you alot more braking power than the little 4 inch disk on the internal brake.
