Hey guys, you might have noticed that my presence has been lacking here for a while. I've been real busy with seeding, and getting some work done on my 1200. as some of you know, I'm planning on putting a hydraulic system in my 1200. I would be using a small pump, (4-6GPM) to run the lift. I am going to try and use the rear end as a reservoir. I would really like to put a filter on this thing, and I am wondering if there is another "Port" so to say, on the rear end. I will probably use the drain port as a pick up, just plumb a line to the pump. I would like to know if there is another port on the rear end that I could use as a return. that way the oil can circulate, and not over heat, and I can filter all the oil. I know of the fill plug on the rear cover, but that would be pretty hard to plumb a line in with a tiller on it. so, if anybody knows if there is another port, and could shoe/tell me where it is, that would be appreciated. I know of one gent that used a power steering pump off a GM auto. He used the hydraulic cylinder, valve and handle off a hydro Cub with a hydraulic lift.

There is another gent who has a early hydrostatic Cub with a loader on it. He uses the rear end sump for a reservoir. He drilled and tap 2 holes in the rear end.

I have a power steering pump, but I don't want to use it because of space (I would like to fit the side panels on) and I don't want to occupy the front PTO. could you tell me where that gent drilled the holes?

I'll be doing the exact same thing to a 582, hopefully after I restore the 100 that's half apart in the garage. Anyway, I'll use extend and tee the drain hole to use as the pickup, and I'm going to drill a hole in the shifter plate and weld in a little threaded bung to put the return in. I could be wrong, but somewhere I thought I read that that's where the return is for some of the Cub Lo-Boys with hydraulics.

so, I would have to take off the fenders, take off the shifter plate, then drill the hole? I'd need to find a gasket, and a couple hours... but I can't think of a better place.

Basically, yeah. It's much easier to drill through the shifter plate and weld a fitting in than drill/tap a big hole in the transaxle somewhere.

What about useing the pulley at the back of the engine that most of the earlier drive shafts are coupled to for the power steering pump drive. That would make it "live" hydraulics. then you wouldn't have to drill into the rear end. Have to do away with the rubber mounts cause I think you'd have to mount the pump on a bracket off the frame.

PS pumps are bulky and won't fit under the side panels, which is the same reason why I'm not using one on my 582, either.

Did you ever get this project completed? I am looking to doing something similar on my 104. When I first got the tractor (17 years ago) there was a power steering pump mounted but we took it off because someone wanted to buy it and I never used it. Now I want to put hydraulics. I will worry about the cylinders later. If anyone has any input, I am interested to hear others opinions.

there was a guy on another form that put a 3speed in a 982 that with i hyd. it was cool set up but i can't find it know to tell you for sure but i think it was the one on unoffical cub cadet site. it show how he drve pump and were he when in the top of shift cover. i hope maybe you can find it and it helps you.
