1330 hydrostatic failure

My Dad's CC1330 has had a failure of the drive train. Symptoms are a noisy drive unit and little to no propulsion. At one point, the fan had been damaged and it's very likely that the unit overheated. The hydrofluid has been changed and the belt is properly adjusted. The engine runs great, and it's the perfect grass cutter for his needs. Are there any repair options for the hydro unit, or ways to further trouble-shoot it?

The 1330 is a Lawn Tractor that has a Peerless Transmission.

I have read, that they can be rebuilt. I have NO experience on this type of Transmission. Maybe someone on this Forum can chime in.

You can probably buy 3 or 4 used equivalent tractors for less than rebuilding the trans. You could try to find a used one, also.

This transaxle has bronze bushings that connect the hydraulic motor to the final drive, they stripped out on mine but only cost about $6.00 each.

OK, School house time..

1) A Peerless transaxle which was then made by Tecumseh, will have a TC- prefix to the part numbers. Peerless Transaxles was recently purchased and is now owned by Husqvarna

2) An Agri-Fab transaxle will have AF- prefixes to the part numbers.

3) Please check the parts number listings for the Model 1330 transaxle....Geeez look at all those AF- part numbers....now I wonder who made that...

4) The gear shift models in that series have a 5-speed on it and the hydrostatic models (including the Model 1330) have Sundstrand Hydrostatic transmissions.

The Parts Manual and Sevice Manual are very helpful in servicing the 1330...Hint, Hint....

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info folks. Is there a service manual available for download? I've found them for other tractors in the past but I couldn't locate one for the 1330.
Since very little power seems to be going to the drive, the bushings may be a possibility. Are these the ones on the vertical input shaft?

MFP: Try calling MTD Documents/Publications: 1-800-800-7310

The 1320 manual also has the same transaxle/transmission information.
