1450 ready for the snow!

Hey guys, been doing some work to the ol 1450. Bought an old snow blade brought it home, stripped and repainted it and just got it mounted today. Had a heck of time getting it started, eventually reset the points and got it running. I can't seem to get the dang governor set right!! I've moved the governor arm and throttle linkage in about every combination I can think of. Still can't get the governor to throttle up when under a load, just bogs down. I know there is some simple trick to setting this that I am just not getting. Any help from you pro's would be greatly appreciated. Any way here's some pics.... I downloaded all these pictures from my Iphone and for some reason they are all sideways. Sorry about that.

For starters, I think you have the governor spring in the wrong hole on the arm.

The 'simple trick' to setting it right is to read the service manual and set the governor accordingly. You won't magically find the right setting by trial and error...

Looks like the spring needs to be about two holes higher.

Great job on your blade, you will be ecstatic when you see how nice it plows !!

Setting the governor can get frustrating, but heed the advice already provided. I also noticed that the governor can be very sensitive to movement, all it takes is a very small adjustment to amplify the results... good luck, you'll get it!

Thanks guys!

Thanks to everyone, I repositioned the spring linkage to the center hole and took the play out of the governor arm, reset the point gap .018 and now it is running better. Still have some tweaking to do to the carb needle valves and throttle linkage to get the right RPM but will tackle that tomorrow. Maybe post some better pictures as it has been explained to me that the iphone needs to be turned sideways when taking pictures. You live and learn....
