Engine parts to replace on rebuilding?
With the discussion about replacing the governor gear, I got to thinking about my Kohler. I picked up a 10HP k241 this past fall that I hope to rebuild next spring/summer. What parts should I replace, in addition to the governor gear while it is all apart?
I was thinking I could start buying up some parts now to spread out the cost. |
Strip it down to the bear block then take the block, valves and crank shaft to a reputable machine shop. They can tell you how much it needs bored and if the crank needs turned. Have them grind the valves and seats and check the guides too. I use only genuine Kohler parts when I rebuild and with the machine shop work and parts, it usually comes to around $500.00 plus my labor. This is for the stock rebuilds I do. I've built puller engines for guys that can run way over $2000.00.

Just wondering...where do you guys normally buy your Kohler parts? Direct from Cub dealers or is there better places to buy the same part at a cheaper price normally?

I buy most of mine from my local Kohler dealer which is Evergreen FS. I've also bought a lot from madsons@ihcubcadet.com. They are GREAT to deal with too, know there stuff and are FAST at shipping!!
