driveshaft pin

I lost the driveshaft pin (the one that fits into the slotted hub ) the other night while plowing snow . I replaced this recently and had to press it into the shaft. I can't think of any reason that it would have fallen out . Btw I found it on the driveway and drove it back in .

I don't know why it backed out, but now would be a good time to buy a couple more just in case. McMaster probably has them of various sizes for a reasonable cost. The actual cost is proportional to how bad you really need it when the snow is deeeeep...

Was it the correct (spirol or roll) pin type? Never trust the previous owner if you're not the original owner.

The pin in the slotted hub is a solid steel pin and is hardened. A spirol pin won't stay in very well. The solid pin is supposed to be a press fit. I suspect McMaster-Carr probably has grooved solid pins that are hardened and will work just fine.

You may want to use some Loctite on that or I have seen a hose clamp work well too,but try the Loctite first.
