In my opinion, No. It is a belt drive lawn tractor that has basically an unserviceable hydrostatic transmission that has a limited life span.

For a lawn mower, it's okay. But Paul is right, it's will have an unserviceable transmission, no drive shaft (if that's a big deal to you). Also, he says it threw the mower belt off and he hasn't re-installed it. To me, the fact it threw the belt is a red flag to me. Also, his price, to me, is a little high - it's a late 80's mower, not a garden tractor, and being about 20 years plus old, it will have seen a lot of use. IMO

Thanks guys, what models are shaft driven? which are still "serviceable", I am looking for one that will move dirt, wood, snow and whatnot. I though all older cubs were shaft driven. I guess I am looking for the older "tank" models.:Huh:

I'm just going to mention the IH built "Tanks". CCC made some tanks also, but I'm too lazy to mention those, since I would pretty much have to list each model number. But the IH built ones would be: 70,71, 72, 73, 10x, 12x, 14x, 169, 800, 1000, 1200, 1250, 1450, 1650, x82. I don't consider the 482 or the 582 special "Tanks" since they have the peerless rear end. I guess the model 1100 had that rear end to.

All the 70 sereis were gear drives. To tell the difference between the others is in the model number. The model numbers ending in a odd number are hydros. The ones ending with a even number are gear drives. The exceptions are the 4 digit model numbers or what they are commonly refered to as Quiet Lines. The ones ending in 00 are gear drives. The ones ending in 50 are hydros.

Also when they numbered the series, they used the gear drive number first. In other words, if you found a 125 hydro, the gear drive model that was built at the same time would be a 124.

The models up to the 1x6/1x7 series are narrow frames. The wide frames start at the 1x8/1x9 series and include the Quiet lines and the x82 series.

The last point of this, is the first 2 digits in the model numbers represent the horse power of the engine. With the exception being the 70 series which are all 7hp tractors. So any 10x tractor has a 10hp engine. A 12x would have a 12 hp engine and so on.

I guess I forgot to mention the x82 engines. The 582 had a 16hp briggs and stratton engine. This was a gear drive with manual implement lift. The 682 and 782 had a 17hp kohler twin. The 682 and 782 were hydro but the 682 had manual implement lift while the 782 had hydraulic implement lift. The 982 had a 19.9hp Onan twin. It was called a Super Garden Tractor. It had bigger tires and a longer frame. It also had hydraulic implement lift. The 982 is the tractor in my avatar. The 782D was built by CCC. IH never made a 782D. The main difference bewtten the 782 and the 782D was the 782D had a 15hp 3 cylinder Kubota diesel engine in it. You might find a 882 in your search. A 882 is a 782D, just painted yellow and white. All of the x82 tractors built by IH were painted red. When CCC started building these in 1982, they came in both Red and Yellow and white. The color depended on where you bought them. The red ones were sold at IH dealerships. The yellow and white were sold at Cub Cadet dealerships
