Stripped oil plug
As I was changing the oil for snow blower duty on my 1450, the engine oil drain plug came out with threads from the oil pan attached. How have you all fixed stripped oil plugs on these old engines?
Also, the lower mount for the coil dropped the nut behind the engine cover. Have you all ever used a self tapping screw to fix it so both sides are tight? As much as this thing rattles, it might need ISO mounts. Thanks. |
I think there's supposed to be either a nut plate or a nut welded on or something like that...sounds like it's missing.
If that's an aluminum oil pan, I'd say have it TIG welded and re-tap the threads. |
Oil pan
I have had a few of those pans but mine had hairline cracks around the drain plug from what I think was over tightening. Be sure to check that area to see if maybe another used oil pan is best. I know that the model 1450 kohler likes to rattle when she rolls but ya gotta love that H.P.:High5: I just finished a 1650 and thought about bolting on a bucket to the top of the hood, add some sand and rusty bolts and mow the yard. Nice fresh shiny bolts and a fine looking yard, all at the same time.:Cub7: The sponsors can help with a pan if ya need one or drop a line in the want adds. I think those pans are fairly easy to acquire. Good luck.
