power steering converison for 782
I have a 782 and was wondering if anyone has ever converted theirs to power steering? And if so also wondering if any of those ugly green parts would work? I have access to a green power steering cylinder and all brackets and front end parts would I be lucky for it to work? Are any of those green power steering columns interchangable to our cubs? What cub column would work if any? Any help would be great! Thanks

You can use a column from an 1872 or 2072 along with the cylinder. You'd have to make your own mounting bracket for the cylinder. JD stuff would probably work, but you'll have to come up with the mounting. Cyclops stuff from an 1862 or 1864 will also work, but you'd have to modify the column.
I actually don't know why you think you need PS...if the steering has been gone through and is adjusted properly, the steering forces are VERY low. If it's hard to steer, something is wrong. |
Some of the parts will interchange. You really just have to look at them and see. There are a couple green models that have the same 5 port power steering "box" valve, but the column length is shorter.
You need to contact Rich at Patton Acres. He has and knows all the in and outs of what you will need. |
I did just such a conversion last year. I used a J.D. steering cyl. & column from the 300 series. The steering wheel wound up 1" closer to the dash but no problem, it makes it really nice to steer.
I'm pleased with it, putting just over 180 hours on it ending this season. if you search my earlier posts you will see the pix & posts. |
any pictures would be great.

I posted/pix's on 11/10/09 to answer your same question then. just search it as I am not familar as to how to repost a previous post.
If doing the conversion again, I maybe would use a cub cyl. but @ the time they were very pricy. |
