Craiglist Gripe
 

Is it just me or do others feel the same.

When searching for Cub Cadets on Craiglist, one can see a lot of results. Once you click on them you discover it is some other brand of tractor and the "lister" placed a "tag line" at the bottom of the Ad, to include every brand of tractor ever know to man. Just when you think you have a discovery close by, it reveals something other than what your intended search was for.

It is pathetic, that someone has to false advertise some hunk of junk that can't stand on it's own reputation, and now has to include Cub Cadet in the tag line,.

Now, I know why they do this....exposure BUT it really pi**es me off.

Yeah, that really grinds my gears too.

That and all the people that want $3000 for a parts tractor with a blown engine, can't spell or post relevant pictures, those that call about something I'm selling and say they're really interested, and then vanish from the face of the earth, among many other things...

I noticed that too. I usually do a general search for "cub" and "john deere" as these are the two brands that interest me most. I see too many ads for Craftsman, MTD, etc., that pop up and the only thing "Cub" or "John Deere" about them is that phrase at the bottom: "Keywords, Cub Cadet, John Deere,.....".

I've been waiting for this thread. I'm with Matt to a T on the "people calling and falling off the face of the earth". I've got a few tractors here that people has asked me to hold either the whole thing or parts and they'll be here tomorrow or whenever. I know you always get a few, but over the past month I've had WAY more than ever and invested quite a bit of time in a few of the transactions just for someone to disappear. Of course I guess that's everywhere... not just craigslist.

Another one is constant reposting. I can understand after 4 or 5 days reposting or you won't get noticed, but it seems like around here the same few ads are renewed daily a lot. But hey... it's a free buying/selling site and it's helped me with both. I can live with everything except people not keeping their word.

You guys have pretty-much hit the nail on the head.

The part that I REALLY hate is when; You call and talk about the item for sale, then drive 2 hours to go look at or pick up the item, only to hear the seller say "Nope, some guy just left with it a few minutes ago".

This, like so many other things, the bad people ruin things for the good people and no one wants to take responsibility for their own actions. Ebay is getting just about as bad.

These are some of the reasons I have become one of the sponsors here. I work hard to make and sell good quality parts, and get them shipped out in a timely manor. It feells really good to finally get to deal with honest, trustworthy people.

I think most "Not all" craigslist people are good.
I know things come up and people get distracted.
As for myself and Ksanders I want to buy a tractor from him, but I got a chunk of metal in my eye last week and can not drive for a few more days.
I went and had the metal cut out of my eye and a contact lense "Band-aid" inserted to keep the eye protected until it heals. I'm feeling better but my vision is not 100%
WEAR SAFETY GLASSES!!!!
Something that I do is I have a note pad and every potential buyer-s
name and ph# I write down and after a few days I call them to see if they are still interested.

As for the I just sold it, well I guess that is a part of life.
When I make the drive I make sure the seller knows my name and when I will be there and be "ON time". And the seller knows I am driving a distance and ask them to hold the item until I get there.
I will hold an item I have for sale as long as I get a "Cut off" time that expires.
As far as listing other brands in a Craigslist ad, I have found some really cool items at a BARGAIN from an ad when I was not looking.
If a guy already has Cub Cadets then he-she may have all they need but,
"Look at this cool item" may spark an interest in something completely different. I Know! That is how I became a Cub Cadet owner and aquired the Yellow Fever. I only wanted F@rd lawn tractors,:BB&YS: untill I found my first Cub. Now I own 5 cubs. :bigthink:

I really hope I didn't send the wrong idea with my post. If you're referring to that frame, it's here not advertised and not bothering anything. The post wasn't meant to single out anyone or anything like that. I was simply referring to some people (who I couldn't tell you they're names if I wanted) mainly from craigslist but not limited to that have actually called me or told me they wanted something and then leave me sitting waiting for them on a certain day and also people that have said "fix this part and I'll be there" and then leave me out the time I spent.
Again, I hope I didn't send the wrong message to anyone here and hope the eye is okay :beerchug: I once had a spray paint can explode in my face and know how bad that can be. Yeah, who thinks to wear safety glasses around spray paint?

The folks that think there stuff is gold is what bothers me.

I also have emailed folks that have way underpriced their items and told them to bump it up. I would hate for someone to lose out as well, espcially when the deal isn't for me!:biggrin2.gif:


Along with Cub Cadets, I am into 70's to 80's Dodge trucks. That is another area of overpriced things, but the Cub people tend to be much more friendlier than the Mopar (along with other car folks) I have dealt with.

Might not be right, but if I use Craigslist, looking specifically for Cub Cadet, and find other brands tagged with CC, I flag it as miscategorized. It takes a few flags from different users to get a post pulled, but don't know what else to do, to change this practice?
