IH 782 problems

I have a IH 782 that I picked up this summer. It has a kt17 (series 1) engine. I runs really well but every once in a while it runs rough. I replaced the coil and it seemed to take care of the problem. I've also rebuilt the carb, replaced the plugs, fuel filter, and tested the fuel pump. I used it for about 2 hours the other day sweeping leaves and it ran beautiful. I was getting ready to put the snowblower on and when I started it has a hesitation when it throttle it up. It backfired, also. It is frustrating because it is intermittent. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Earl

Backfiring usually means a timing issue. Timing could also cause your hesitation.

You might check to see if the gap has closed up on the points.
it costs nothing and is easy to get at.

Check to see how clean they are and if the condensor wire is tight also.. I just went thru and found that on mine..
