Deep Sump K301
 

Hello everyone
Need educated on a Kohler 301 that has a deep sump and oil dip stick next to the point cover. Can it be used on a narrow frame?

I have seen these but never worked with one and don't have an example to measure things up. Thanks.

The location of the dip stick and the deep sump oil pan are of little consequence.

Kohler made engines to fit a number of applications, with a variety of differences, as long as it has a Cub Cadet compatible pan and the right size crank shaft, you should be good to go.

Am I missing anything else here guys?

I just bought a cast iron pan for a K-301 and it looks just like the aluminum pan from my K-341, and appears to have the same part number for replacement parts. I bought it to replace the aluminum one, which has some damage from coming loose from the Quietline motor mount on the 1650. Apparently there wasn't much difference in the Kohler blocks from 12hp up to 16hp. Don't know about the older ones.

I swapped my 10hp CC100 engine into my CC127 in order to rebuild the 301 engine. Both had the top of the engine dipsticks but the 301 had the deep sump pan and the 241 (10hp) had the flat pan. I sat the deep sump pan in the 100 chassis while I got the 241 adjusted and working in the 127 chassis. No problems with the swap as far as the 127 was concerned. When it came time to remove the 301 from the 100 chassis, the deep sump pan hit on the axle mount, making it difficult to remove the engine. Fortunately, I was about to replace the clutch disc on the 100 as the removal process broke the ears off of the clutch disc. I did all this so as to use the larger 42" deck on the 127 to cut my grass with. :bash2:

My take on the cam cover/dipstick is that there is sufficient clearance to fit on the 100.:biggrin2.gif: I don't have any 105/6 series frames to try it against, but if that series 301 engines had the deep sump pans, then there probably is enough room.
