running issues 127

finally put the plow brackets on etc and then i take it for a ride and starts running funny. then it died out. then I could only get it to run at low idle without it dying. So then i take the air cleaner off and spray a bit of carb cleaner in there and when i got it started High Idle was surgeing really bad and i kept spraying a small squirt at a time of the cleaner and put the air clearner back on, finally started to run almost normal, but still surging here and there. Do you think its the carb? Maybe dirty? It also was vibrating alot when it was running funny. Ugggg just what I need.

If you haven't cleaned the carb thoroughly and put a carb kit in it, I would do that for starters.

Thanks Matt. I know it's not the orig carb. 1st off it's a walbro and it's shiny silver and clean. I know the orig ones were painted yellow. Should I get a kohler carb Or is the walbro fine?

I would get a Kohler carb. A lot of those Walbros seem to be set on the lean side of things from the factory. The rebuild kit for the Kohlers is also much cheaper than that for the Walbro, or at least it is for the twin cylinder carbs.

Do you know the carb number for the k301?

It'll have a "26" in the air filter side of the venturi.

Just a word of warning, there were also several choke and throttle configurations depending on what the engine was for. Make sure you get one that was meant for a Cub Cadet, or one that has the same style choke and throttle linkage setup.
