May Trade for a 129
 

As some may know here, I have been looking for a wide frame. I found this one and I may trade. It ran two years ago (seems like they all ran two years ago), but will need a carb cleaning, and maybe a few other things. He wants my 122 for it, but I'm not too keen about trading it, though I would if he leaves the lug tires on the 129. (notice all 4 tires are lug tires). If not, I'll probably pass on it.

Is that a 50 inch deck? If it is that's a plus

I really prefer the wide frames over the narrow frames, and for no other reason than just my preference. I have read the wide frames are stronger.. but I'm not so sure that's true. I do like the access in the wide frame, and the engine arrangement. I also like the quiteline series much better myself, the ISO mounts can be troublesome, but when they are right as in factory like restored it's a great setup in my opinion. I'm working on a 149 for my son right now, and I also like this setup... I have read the 149 and similar models (129, 169 etc and gear drives) may be the best models made because many people don't like the quitlines. I want to try a 782 (diesel would be outstanding) or similar model as I think these may also be a great model.. heck they are all good, but everyone needs a wideframe in their arsenal.

I'm not sure of the size of the deck. It might be a mute point, he's pretty adamant about keeping the rear tires for his 102. Like I said, it ran two years ago, but not now. It probably wouldn't take much to get it running, probably just a carb cleaning. But, I'm not sure I want to try and get another tractor running. And besides, my 122 runs flawlessly.

I dunno T-Mo... I think in this case a bird in the hand is better than a pig in a poke.

I understand that you're REALLY wanting a Wide Frame, but it kinda sounds like he wants to keep all the meat and only give you the potatoes.

I don't know that a 129 that doesn't run and has no rear wheels and tires is worth much more than a hundred and fifty dollars. You might try telling him that you MAY trade, if he gets the 129 running so you can hear it and see if it smokes or not. Then see if he'll be any easier to deal with. You would be surprised how fast the "price" can come down when you're standing there with money in your hand but you want to hear it run FIRST.

I actually told him that exact same thing - get it running first, and then we'll talk. But he has since email me to tell me, he's traded it for a Wheel Horse 502 and a cultivator. Now he's offering me a Case 220 - but I'm not interested. I had made up my mind, anyways, to keep my 122 and not to deal. Another wide frame will show up.

Good job T-Mo, you gotta look at each pitch, but you don't have to swing at all of them.

I was interested, but it was too much of a risk. I would need to have it running to check the condition of, not only the engine, but the hydro as well. And then the deck may have bad spindles in them, etc. As much as I want a wide frame, I'm not about to give my 122 away for something that's not equal value. There be other wide frames - I have one that I could get, but it's in Indiana - I'm not sure if I want to make that trip without exploring what's closer to home.
