Reversing the direction of a starter generator???

I just bought two cub cadets real cheap and the starter generator was off of one of them. I just jumped the s/g to make sure it works and it works but it spins the wrong way! Is there any way to reverse the direction of it or should I try to sell it and buy another one?

Not a 100% sure but I think you would have to replace the field windings in the s/g to make it run in the correct direction. Might be cheaper to find a good used one.

It would be the best, in the long run, to sell the one you have and obtain the correct S/G for a Cub Cadet.

Agreed, I would just sell it and try and buy one that is right for the cubs. I've got one off an old Economy Tractor sitting on my shelf that spins the opposite direction of cubs so there are still people wanting them out there.

Pretty much everything except the CCs use a CW S/G.

darkminion 17 was looking for that starter 5 days ago.

the s/g on my 64' simplicity has the same one as my cub...but different rotation also.
Technically, you can put the shaft through from the other side and it will reverse the rotation....but then I don't think it will bolt on to the engine in the right place.

The biggest roadblock I saw is that the brushes are slanted in different directions. I think that is the main difference between CW and CCW. Probably only an endplate difference, but I gave up checking any further. I'm down to one now, the one on the tractor. Hope it hangs in there....

I recently tore down the 126 to use for donor parts for my 122. The 126 was wired positive ground (!?) and it worked!! The S/G worked in a correctly wired system (and one wired positive ground!). That was a weird one I may never fully understand.

The field coils, brush holders, and pulley-end casting are different. There are also 2 different length starter/generators.
