A few questions about cubs
I am new to cubs, but just got a 122 with instant addiction. I have a few questions, I have saw a few for sale on e bay.craigslist etc, I get confused I will see a 149 for sale listed as lawn tracto then one listed as garden tractor for same number (149). Did IH make lawn tractors and garden tractors with same numbers? Also difference between wide and narrow frame? I know this may be obvious answers, but I just want to know more about them and understand whe I read post just what they are talking about, thanks for your time who reply,

A 149 is a garden tractor. Most people mis-list stuff because they don't know the difference between a lawn tractor and a garden tractor. The only model number overlap I can think of is the 800 and the 1050, 3 of the 4 models in that case were MTD-built.
NF = frame rails are of constant width along the entire length of the frame. WF = frame flares out a bit at the front to accommodate the larger engines. If you want a good book on Cub Cadets, search for "Cub Cadet: The First 45 Years" on Google. |
This may help you with Frame Widths..... Frames

Ads calling garden tractors "lawn tractors" doesn't really bother me much. What I dislike is when I see an ad titled "Cub Cadet Garden Tractor" or "JD Garden Tractor", just to find it's a lawn tractor after I clicked on it. While you can mow with a garden tractor, ain't no way you're gonna to plow a field with a lawn tractor (or as some ads calls them "lawn morer"). I guess the sellers just need some education on these terms.

This has helped alot, so I assume by my reading that every tractor IH made up until 81 or so when they were sold was a garden tractor? and not a lawn tractor? Thanks for all the replies, big help here guys,

NO...
IH did make Lawn Tractors. They made models, 76, 80, & 81 to mention a few. NOW.....there is a odd one in the bunch. It is the model 1100. Some people think it is a Garden Tractor and some think it is a Lawn Tractor. What is unique about this model that it has a B & S motor in it as opposed to the traditional Kohler. Instead of having the traditional Cast Iron rear end, it has a Peerless transaxle. So...considering the above, most guys view this model as a Lawn Tractor but you can see it advertised both ways. Go Figure. |
Man, there ain't nuthin gets my britches bunched up like someone calling my cubs lawn mowers!:angry:
I have a buddy that likes to do it just to make me hit the roof. I make comments about his silly fords, so we are even! :biggrin2.gif: Randy |
