k321 governor play

So I rebuilt the Walbro carburetor on my K321 and I couldn't get it to run right after making many adjustments. So I pulled a Carter 26 off an old engine and rebuilt it. I went to adjust the governor arm and found that it slides in and out of the block. How much play should there be in and out on the shaft? What I found with a quick google search is none. Is this my problem with the carb not setting right? What the walbro was doing at full throttle is stalling and cant catch up when hitting tall grass or pulling a steep grade. I was able to finish the yard by running 3/4 throttle. I have the Carter on it now but don't want to go any further until I know about the governor.

Okay I may have found the problem. There is a 3/4 brass nut that was loose. I tightened it up and now it has about 1/8" play in and out. Its probably been loose for a year. Its been getting bogged down it thick tall grass and takes a a few seconds to catch up when I stop. It got worse this year so I assumed it was the carb. Im going to try it out but what do yall think? Any harm done?
