Grease Fitting on Anti-Scalping Wheels
2 Attachment(s)
I didn’t know there are molded-in grease fittings on a 48” fabricated deck anti-scalping wheels. (See pics) I was cleaning up the deck and greasing the spindles and noticed molded in grease ports on each wheel that I never knew were there due to the black colour. I am always looking for a jerk fitting but not on these. Do they all have this or just certain decks?
If some of you have missed this as I did, go check yours to see if they are on yours too. |
I have seen those on mine. It doesn't look like they are "balled" at the top to hold a grease gun fitting.
I simply remove the bolt and lubricate them. That gives me a chance to use WD-40 on a rag and clean the bolt and inside of the wheel (which are quite dirty). I then apply very very very light coat of lithium grease. I don't want it to attract dirt. |
You are correct there is no ball on the end. That hole does go through to that “grease groove”. Your method is likely superior as you stated to not attract too much dust and dirt. Before I greased them, I cleaned all 4 wheels in hot soapy water to removed the dirt on the inside of the hole hole using a bottle brush and re-greased it with my needle point grease tip. I hardly use the mower deck so they should last a long time.
