Cub 126 excessive driveshaft movement when Cluching
 

im trying to rubber band and chewing gum a 126 i had laying around for camp. the clutch pretzeled the "finger" plate on a buddy that was using it for a plow rig. i got a new finger plate,,friction and TO bearing and believe i have it all put together correctly. the issue im having is setting the clutch, specifically i am running out of adjustment on the bolt. when i worked the pedal it seemed like the whole assembly was moving backward, sure enough it appears the coupler is moving backward into the reduction housing. has anyone had to deal with something like this? do i just shim it behind the coupler to keep it from moving back? thanks

Did you check the spirol pins on that connection? if they are not broken there may be an issue with the gear reduction bearing, You won't find out till you remove the driveshaft.

drive shaft was out already, new spriol pins all around,flappered some of the wear on the clutch plate coupler portions and sanded the high spots on the faces out on the DMT plates. springs were still springlike and unbroken so were reused , new driveshaft to rear coupler (i bought a box of parts a few years ago at an estate, had a box of10 of them) , and i had the shifter out cause it had some surface rust gumming things up from condensation (someone didn't use hytran it its life , it got drain and filled):bash2:

i had to replace the gov gear in the k301 and do some oil pan thread repair so its been out aswell and apart.

so yea im just kinda flummoxed at the amount of travel the reduction shaft has.

i have a fleet of hydros (105,2x123's,2x149's and some more modern junk) so im not unfamiliar with cubs but this is the only gear shift in the stable and the only one i trust the lefty's at camp to not put through the barn wall. (sidebar thank god i put a mini split in the garage a few years ago)

i bit the bullet and ordered an undrilled 2" shaft coupler, the shaft movement on the needle bearing was .375 i made the new coupler .3xx something between the holes longer so i had a little wiggle room to get everything lined up , should be good now.
