1861 axle on 149 to low
 

did this modification many years ago along with the three turn column. It has always worked awesome. The problem I've had since is the axle actually lowered the front end making the deck to low even with taking all of the adjustment out of the deck. I've just put up with it (almost scalping the yard). I'm retired now and its time to fix it..Anyone else have this problem? At the time this was the suggested axle.

Sorry can’t help you with your axle problem, but I’d really like to know what machine you got the three turn steering column from.

If you have added a "super steer" front axle, you need to use the taller spindles
in that axle, not the short ones, the taller ones raise the front just about 2"
I did that to both my 782 and the 1650 for clearance when I added power steering. It makes them steer with 1 finger,and the taller spindles restore ride height/deck clearnce

Where do I get the taller spindles? What do I look for? I'll gladly buy some on eBay if I know what to look for. Or from a sponsor here.

According to CC parts site,
The long spindles (steering knuckles) are possibly from 1861 S/N 821,060 - 836,000:

PN 603-0007 (left) and 603-0006 (right)

As a reference point, this is PN for the short one 703-1749 (right).

Thanks for the info, that heips a lot. I had to go back and look at one of my posts. This axle came off an 1860.

It's been so long I don't exactly remember but I think it was from an 1811
