Cub Cadet 1862

I have a Cub Cadet 1862 and have had it for several years. It started blowing the fuse near the solenoid. After much time and effort, my sidekick thinks it's the stator.

My questions is: Should the stator windings be grounded?

Thanks so much and I will take any ideas.

No. Usually two wires coming from the stator and connect to the regulator.

How hard is it to change the stator? I would probably need to pull the engine.

If you go changing the stator just because your "sidekick thinks its bad", you may be setting yourself up for a lot of work, expense, and disappointment.

A little more info would help here. When does it blow the fuse?
After a while? When you turn the key? Time to do some meter work
and find out.

It usually blows the fuse as soon as I turn the key, but not always. Sometimes it starts and runs OK for a while, then blows the fuse. So, it's not consistent.

If you suspect the stator dis-connect it and run the unit for a while and see what happens.

Usually when it happens as soon as you turn the key on it is in the lighting circuit.
Time to get the meter out and start checking for a short circuit to ground in the lighting circuit.

How do I post pictures on this site?

I took the flywheel off and it appears a magnet has come loose from the flywheel. The magnet was sticking to the stator.

I tried to post some pictures, but it keeps asking for a URL and I don't know how to do this??

Here is some help on posting pictures.
