Walbro carb help needed
 

I have a 149 with the k321. Many years ago I bought a new replacement k321 motor for it. It came with the Walbro carb. Its now leaking out of the filter. I got a rebuild kit and installed it. It still leaked and I know its the float needle not sealing so I cleaned the seat and had to bend the little tab on the float to make it seat and seal. This made the float close sooner and allowing more gas into the bowl. (I think Im remembering this right). Will this affect how the engine runs? I didn't mess with the adjustments on the carb since it was running so well before. Now it starts fine but has a surge and will shut off. Just not running right. My question is, is the float ok and I need to make the adjustments or is the float the main problem.
Also the kit is an OEM Walbro kit made exactly for this carb

As a general rule, a lower fuel level in a float bowl will make the mixture more lean.

One way to check the fuel level in the bowl "live" is to attach a small clear tube to the drain hole on the float bowl and hold it up along side the carb, then open the petcock to let fuel flow into the carb. As the float bowl fills, the liquid level in the tube should fill to the same height. If the liquid in the tube goes half way up the side of the float bowl, then the float bowl is half full.

If the fuel level goes too high, that is usually one of three things. Either the float valve plunger is getting stuck open, the face of the float valve is damaged or the float is not floating as well as it should. The You can feel if the plunger moves freely or not. You can usually see if the face is damaged. You can throw the float into a jar of fuel and see if it floats or not.
