fuel rated packing for that tiny little needle valve on the fuel bowl??
 

does anyone know where I can get fuel rated packing for that tiny little needle valve on the fuel bowl under the gas tank on a 100?

I've repacked plenty of packing glands before, but I've never seen packing material that small. I don't even know where the look for it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you, I didn't know that that little gizmo existed as a replacement part. I also didn't know it was comprised of a flat bottom piston on the end of the stem that I assume must go up against a volcano orifice. I had incorrectly assumed that the mechanism would be a needle valve.

Patience was not my finest virtue yesterday. I wanted to take action, so I went to my local Home Depot and found some packing material that was made by Danco in the plumbing aisle. It was a type I had not used before. It was not woven. It was a sort of a soft monofilament. When I pulled it, it necked down & became thin enough to wind around the stem under the brass nut, which I had expected was a packing nut. I'll report back in a few weeks to let people know how it holds up. Having now seen what the guts of the valve look like, my expectations are not so high.

My original problem was that my fingers would get a little wet with fuel when I opened or closed the valve. The valve spun very freely. I can live with stinky fingers, but that valve is right above the ignition coil, and the possibility of raw fuel dripping on a spark source was enough to get my attention. So I decided to look into it promptly.

It seems that I came to the right place looking for information when I posted here.

When I unscrewed the brass nut, the rest of the guts didn't want to come all the way out. I'm going to guess that the little plunger on the end of the stem is probably mushroomed out a little. Is that what usually happens?
