Rear Tire Sizes??

I have 2 model 100's. One has the narrow rims with 6-12 tires. The other has wider rims. One of the wide rims has a 23-10.5-12 tire on it that looks original and has the same tread pattern as my narrow tires. The other tire is a 23-9.5-12 with a different tread pattern and has less dry rot. I'm guessing that was a "close enough" replacement that was installed buy a previous owner when one of the original wide tires failed in some way. The books seem to indicate that 6-12 and 23-10.5-12 are stock sizes.

Now here in Florida, we have a lot of sand. My previous experience tells me that low air pressure and big tires with shallow tread are your friend in that environment. This being the case, I'm wondering how big of a tire I can put on the wide rims without running into trouble. I see that turff tires are available in both 26-12-12 and 26-10.5-12. I'm thinking that these will likely fit but I'd rather learn from the experiences of others before experimenting myself.

Who has played with big tires on the backs of these things before? How did it work out for you? Did you find tires that were even bigger than what I listed?

Thanks,
Jim

Perhaps I should ask a slightly different question.

I see that 26-12-12 and 26-10.5-12 tires are available. Has anyone ever tried either of these sizes on the back of a Cub Cadet? If so, would you please post a picture and describe any difficulties that you ran into?

Thanks,
Jim

The 26" tires were standard on the Super Cubs.
You would likely encounter clearance issues using them on a NF.

Where would the clearance issues likely be?

This is for a model 100 with no mower deck and no fenders.

Also, what was the rim size on the super cubs?

If you don't have fenders you may be okay. Rubbing the sidewall on the gearbox might be an issue; I don't have a narrow frame. Here's a link to typical tire sizes and a photo of 23-10.5/12 tires on my Original.
