Engine idle at turtle but dies with throttle

I took about my engine as part of a rebuild project. Everything is back together but I noticed it will only run when the throttle plate is closed. When the throttle plate is opened up, it dies.

I've disconnected the throttle plate from the engine controls so that I can manually adjust the throttle. I replaced the fuel filter and cleaned the carburetor; carburetor solenoid clicks on with the key and is only about 3 years old. Compression in both cylinders is fine (160 psi in Cylinder 1 and 150 psi in Cylinder 2). I've checked the valve lash and magneto gaps.

Other than replacing the carburetor, I am not sure what is causing the engine to cut out when the throttle is applied.
