125 wiring issue / question

Working on getting a 125 running again. Purchased a new harness and finishing that up. When I first hooked up the cable that runs from the battery, the tracker starts cranking. I don’t have key in or on. Any thoughts?

Start by double checking your connections, sounds like you missed something somewhere. The battery positive cable runs to your starter solenoid.

Pictures would help the experts.

Most likely the voltage regulator is wired incorrectly

That could be correct!

However....I would like to know the history of the tractor. Did you just get it as a non runner or did you have it for some time? Are you throwing other parts into it such as key switch, voltage regulator or solenoid?

Thanks for the replies. So the tractor did run a few years back. I have replace the harness, key and the starter / generator is fairly new.

I recorded a video of the issue

The voltage regulators have the terminals labeled,
there is no standard for the terminal placement, don't assume they are physical in the same locations.
Test each wire as to what the other end attaches to, then attach it to the proper LABELED terminal on the regulator.:beerchug:

Ditto what ol' George said.

In Addition, there are 3 terminal regulators and there are 4 terminal regulators. Which do you have?
The 3 terminal regulators have the lugs stamped FLD, BAT, & GEN.
The 4 terminal regulators have the terminals stamped FLD, BAT, LOAD, & GEN. The GEN terminal is usually on the underneath surface, not visible when mounted.
If you have a 4 terminal regulator, make sure the GEN wire from the harness is NOT on the LOAD terminal of the regulator.

Next question:
You say you replaced the key switch.
Did you replace it before the harness and did it work correctly with the old harness, or did you put a new one in simultaneously with the harness.
If simultaneous, what is the part number of the new key switch.
