Just acquired a Cub Cadet 102
 

Just bought a house and after side yard clean up we have found out we have an International Harvester Cub Cadet 102 that was hiding out in the bushes. According to neighbors it hasn’t moved in over 20 years and definitely has a rustic look going for it. I’d love to get it running and be the redneck riding it down the street. It has the tiller attachment on the back also. What things should I know about this tractor? I want to know everything about it! Thanks for any advice/knowledge.

The 102 is the 10HP model Cub that was part of the 3rd series of Cubs built from Aug 1965 thru Nov 1967. the 102 enjoyed a production run of some 30,615 units.
I see that you tiller has both the left and right side extensions on it as well! Nice!!
That effectively makes it a 42" unit like the model #2 that was offered a little later.
You have a little diamond in the rough there!

Any advice on mechanical aspects with engine/PTO ect. I doubt this thing will run if I tried. Just trying to think of options. Is there schematics for this machine as well? I’m not going to get rid of it but are these worth much?

Nice bonus on the house purchase!

First off, don’t try to start it or turn it over right away. Pull the spark plug and dribble in a table spoon of engine oil then a couple shots of penetrating oil. Let it sit at least a week, then turn it over by hand. If that seems smooth, take the carb off and thoroughly disassemble, clean and put in a rebuild kit. When it’s turn over time, first check for spark with the plug out. If you have spark, feed it some fresh gas from a small, clean tank or bottle. The tractor looks well cared for and unmolested just judging by the pictures. Well worth the time!

It might be a smoker that needs a rebuild, or have a major engine issue. Good also be they got a new mower and just parked that one. Good luck!

With that Cali weather it probably isn't in too bad of shape even sitting out.

OP, to answer your previous question, they aren't worth more than a few hundo in running/decent condition, at least by me.

But all it needs from you is likely a battery, carb cleaning, points cleaning, and some front tires or tubes. :bigthink:
