Picked up 450 Snow blower tonight, grease??
I picked up 450 snow blower tonight. I was thinking of greasing it. Should I disassemble the boxes or just inject new grease? According to CC. literature it calls for Shell Albania grease. What would be a good locally available grease? Thanks Bob.

I would take the gear boxes apart, unless you are confident that the previous owner took care of the it.

Ok. That's Shell Alvania grease recommended. 'Big fingers'.

Shell Alvania is a brand name for their EP2 (extreme pressure) grease.
Just google "EP2 grease" to see other brands. This may be at your local Wally World.... https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mobil-Mob...R&from=/search |
Ok thank you.

I have been using marine grease in mine for the last many years- I would definately take them apart and clean out whatever is in there. the last two I have done the old grease was hard as a rock. at least on mine, the "shaft seals" are a joke and may as well have nothing. I have installed a grease zerk in both boxes and I just fill it with marine grease until it comes out the shaft entries. I do have a spare set on my part shelf just in case. as far as I know there are no Cub cadet replacement parts for anything inside there. But I have 451's not 450 blowers.

Ok thanks. I got to make a stand to sit the blower on so I can work on it comfortably. At 77 I can kneel just more comfortable to be up higher. Got 50lb CC wheel weights also.

Mount the blower on the tractor, once your are sure all is as it should be, raise the blower to it's highest level. build your stand (platform) just slightly lower than that max height so that you can lower the blower on to it. The reverse will be true when re-mounting so that every thing is lining up with as little jiggling as possible. I would recommend casters or wheels on the bottom of your stand to make life easier. No picture, but I used a five caster base unit from an old office chair. |
Thanks for the tips.
