KOHLER ch730s no spark

I have a Cub cadet GT3200 form 2005 to 2010 model,
25hp v-twin
Pulled engine to clean the whole machine & engine for next spring
Had one head gasket that was bad so I replaced both gaskets
Both coils are from this engine and were tested
I have it on a stand before I re-install it

The problem is I have no spark from either coil no matter what I do
I cleaned the flywheel & coil surfaces.
Gapped coils at .010
Gapped the plugs again
I switched the coils and even tried reversing them to make sure I hadn't installed them backwards
I have no wires attached to engine or coils
I put a brand new Kohler key in the flywheel, old one wasn't hurt but while I had it apart I went ahead and replaced it anyhow
Engine turns over fine, but NO SPARK

I used 2 different spark testers and I also used several new spark plugs checking for spark, NOTHING

I'm probably missing something simple, but for now I haven't the foggest idea of what it is
ANY insight would be appreciated

Sorry I'm not much help but how did you test them? I think this engine just has the regular CD ignition system and not the Smart Spark....correct?

OAK, You're correct, it doesn't have a smart spark system and as far as I know it never did
I've had it for about 5 years and I had changed both coils several years ago when one went bad
The ones on the engine now are the same ones that have been on it when the engine was pulled
Testing the coils I used an OHM meter , everything checked out fine
I hate to order new coils then find out that wasn't the problem.
I'm probably overlooking something simple, but it is still frustrating

I've run Briggs and Honda engines on the same stand before and had no problem
But then Kohler just might be different enough to be a freakin' headache

OAK, I thank you for your reply, I really appreciate it
Have a great weekend

I'd suggest trying the old coils that you had on it several years go as you mentioned one coil was good. :bigthink:

Wanted to figure out why no spark in case I ran into another problem just like it
But spending so much time trying to figure it out, with so many other projects I need to take care of, I broke down and ordered 2 new coils, just to save time and aggrevation
It is a good engine so if and when I get it to running I won't have to change the coils again
To me Horizontal shaft Kohler engine coils are a pain to change
I'm retired and don't have as much patients as before, but I sure would like to find out why it has no spark, just to enlighten myself

Or MAYBE I'm too stubborn to let IT get the best of me

Seems I have gremlins in my garage
The new coils & plugs came in yesterday , coils & new plugs were gapped and installed
I put plug gap at .030 and didn't see any spark form the plugs.
So I took the gap down to .020 to see what would happen.
YEP, they showed spark
