2155 Hydrostatic Transmission filter and fluid Change
 

Looking to change the transmission fluid on my 2155 hydrostatic transmission. I have the Cub Cadet part numbers for the filter and fluid Is there anything better or cheaper that I should consider that anyone has used?

Here are the other filters that will work. I use the Wix 51410 on all of my Cubs.

For the transmission oil....
Cub Cadet is not or were ever capable of making a hydro transmission so they subbed that work out to Sunstrand or Hydro-Gear. Your machine has a Hydro-Gear transmission in it. If you look in their manual here is what it says.....

I do not know why Cub Cadet would ever want you to buy their over priced oil but just remember it may void your warranty if you don't use their stuff.:biggrin2:

I run Wix filters and TSC oil or Rotella 15W-40 in all of my Cub Cadet transmissions. I do not have any decent Cub Cadet or IH dealers within 100 miles.

Use the Synthetic 15w/50 and a top of the range filter not a cheapy
Wix are not available down here so I cannot comment on them
Have done this with my cubs for over 25 years no problems every 100 hours

On a new machine, if the replacement fluid doesn't meet the same specs as to what they recommend, yes, they could refuse to pay for service on a transmission that is serviced within the warranty period.

Red ATF fluid used in automobiles used to get an instance void on the transmission that was used in their machines.

Many lawn & garden tractor manufacturers used to do that a lot when there were so many manufacturers still on the market making lawn & garden tractors.

But in the case of two manufacturers that I know of, Deere and MTD, neither would do a whole machine void. They'd just refuse to pay for service on the transmission if it was determined to be a transmission issue if the fluid didn't meet their specs. Power King was another that would do that as well. But once the issue was fixed and paid for by you, your warranty would continue as normal.

Some of the lower-cost brands that had serviceable transmissions back in the 1970s and 1980s would do a whole machine void if the fluid you used didn't meet the specs.

The key words are (their specs) . You could buy the same weight of fluid/oil as to what they used, but if it didn't have the same additives in the fluid as to what they recommended. They could still refuse to honor the warranty. So don't think that it didn't ever happen back in the past or even today still.

But the 2155 hasn't been under warranty for about 25 years, as we both know.
